Millions of Americans either have been diagnosed or know of someone with cancer. Many of these stories have triumphant endings, with individuals successfully beating their diagnoses and going on to enjoy long and cancer-free lives. National Cancer Survivors Day, which will be held on June 2, 2013, is a celebration to honor those who have so bravely fought this disease. This event also serves as a rallying cry for those who may be in the beginning stages of their fight against cancer. Events big and small will be going on simultaneously throughout the day on June 2, and the cancer care community encourages individuals to organize their own events and further the message that cancer can be stopped.

In recognition of May’s National Stroke Awareness Month, Southern Hills Hospital is providing a free lunch workshop called “Heart Disease and Stroke: Two Sides of the Same Coin.” The program provides the expertise of heart specialist Dr. Keshav Chander, with a presentation on the common causes and risk factors of heart disease and stroke, as well as a community question and answer session. Oftentimes, the causes and factors are similar and unknown to potential heart disease and stroke patients. Southern Hills Hospital is a Certified Primary Stroke Center and is a recipient of the “Get With The Guidelines – Silver Stroke Quality Achievement Award” from the American Heart Association.
The free lunch education program is brought to the community by the hospital’s Health to You (H2U) program, a health and wellness membership program. The workshop is on:
Wednesday, May 15 at 11:30 a.m.
Southern Hills Hospital Education Room/First Floor
9300 W. Sunset Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89148
The workshop and lunch are free, but registration is required by calling 702.880.2700 at least 48 hours in advance of the event date. To learn more about the hospital and its services, visit SouthernHillsHospital.com .
